An Interview with Lauren
Sadly Lauren Pritchard is no longer playing at The Basement this time round, but as she'd given us a quick interview to plug the show, we thought we'd get it online for you to read and fingers crossed she'll come play for us soon!
- What is it that inspires you to make the music that you're making?
- The inspiration is a combination of a love for certain kinds of music (i.e. old school 70's Al Green hits, folk music, Joni Mitchell, The Fugees, John Mayer) that i'm really into and life itself (the happiness, sadness and everything in between)
- How does it feel when more established acts (such as Ed Harcourt and Mumford & Sons) take an interest in what you're doing?
- It's a great to be able to work with such talented people with such care and concern for music, theirs and mine as well. It means a lot for people like Ed & Marcus to take interest and want to be a part of what i'm creating musically :)
- Is this (the assistance they've given you) something you see yourself passing on in the future to other up-and-coming artists?
- It would be so cool to do the same things for people in the future, it would be a huge compliment to be asked to do so!
- How does your live sound differ from what we can hear on record and online?
- Well, right now the live sound is more stripped down from the record, it's myself, my guitarist Paul Sayer and my drummer Simon Lea playing the record between the three of us. I think it sounds great, you still get the real vibe of the album even without all the necessary instruments. The album "Wasted in Jackson" is full band, full recordings, lots of instruments, strings and such so because those things aren't in the live show right now it's definitely going to be different, but i still think we're keeping it well rounded between the 3 of us.
- Succinctly, how would you convince people to come and see you live?
- I would tell people that they'll be hearing soulful music, honest tunes and a lot of fun in the half hour set that we're doing. I think a lot of people can relate to the lyrics and it's a little bit old school and little bit new, i hope people will check out the myspace as well and that will maybe inspire them to come down and check the live sound out :)
