An informal evening of lively discussion revolving around contemporary scientific issues of the day. Each meeting begins with a short talk from an invited science-related speaker, followed by up to an hour of open discussion including a Q & A session. Everyone is welcome to attend and express their views, or to just enjoy a drink and listen. No scientific knowledge is assumed and everyone can participate. Please note that admission is free but by ticket only. Guest Speaker: Duncan Forgan, Institute for Astronomy (Royal Observatory Edinburgh), University of Edinburgh Astrobiology is an exciting multi-disciplinary science which is growing in stature. It has a difficult target to obtain: in short, Astrobiology's aim is to understand the chain of causality from the Universe's beginning, to the appearance of life. Duncan will illustrate the current state of the art, describing the theory of Astrobiology as it is currently understood (from the Big Bang to the present day).
