The Huntington's Disease Association Charity Event featuring We Could Be Astronauts + The Littlemores + Montego Bay
Fun and frolics ahoy! It's time to unveil the line up for our first Huntington's Disease Association fund raising night at The Basement. So, what's in store for you lucky sailors on the 16th March...Well, headlining the night will be York favourites, We Could Be Astronauts. Fresh of supporting Shed 7 and featuring ex members of The Seahorses(Squires post Stone Roses outfit) , Hijack Oscar (Channel 4 Orange Unsigned finalists) and Idle Jack and The Big Sleep, We Could Be Astronauts are York's equivalent of a super group. Taking their cues from Led Zeplin and Soundgarden to create a modern day monster of rock sound, things are building nicely for We Could Be Astronauts.
The Littlemores have been together for a little over 2 years now and bring a blend of indie and reggae with lashings of Alex Turner like lyrics to proceedings. They released their EP Idle Idols in July 2010 which was given 10/10 on Stereoboard. They have supported bands such as The Twang, Shed Seven, The Holloways, Dogs, White Belt Yellow Tag and The Janice Graham Band to name a few.
Montego Bay are bringing their blend of Funk/Reggae/Rock/Pop/Jazz/Latin back to The Basement for us...and lucky sailors we are too! Formed in 2008, this 6 piece are really starting to make their mark on the York music scene after homing their talents around the city. If their headline set at The Duchess towards the end of the year is anything to go by, they are not to be missed!
Right, the reason we're all climbing aboard the good ship Basement is to raise funds and awareness for The Huntington's Disease Association. The HDA exists to support people affected by the disease and to provide information and advice to professionals whose task it is to support Huntington's disease families. They also offer a Regional Care Advisory service for families which has branches around the UK. As well as this they promte and fund both social and medical research and encourage new research into the disease.
