neuschlaufen + Fawn Spots + Man Is Slapped + Burning Fences + Twin Pines
A new underground promotional collective called Wrong Side Of The River are presenting this show. It features five bands or artists currently pursuing their own musical identity amidst the wash of derivative, static and characterless shrink-wrapped listener-market-researched muzak of today! Ahem.
neuschlaufen is the new project of John Tuffen and Steve Carter. The outfit take their cue from Krautrock and take it ever-spinning into indeterminable threads of looped harmonies and shimmering feedback underpinned by live percussion that roots the core of the tracks. Their first gig garnered this impressive review from Whisperin' And Hollerin'; "neuschlaufen (yes, all lower case) may only be two in number, with some of the savviest and most innovative use of a loop pedal, they manage to produce a dense wall of sound by means of a live drum kit and multiple instruments played through a rack of effects. The songs - largely instrumental pieces - build and build around simple motifs repeated ad infinitum in an approximation of Suicide's early recordings. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Can and Neu, there's a quirkiness as well as a relentlessness about the music that's deeply hypnotic. It was pleasing to see a fair few had turned out early enough to witness the set."
Fawn Spots are fresh out of the forest. With several live shows behind them, this band have already created a buzz of anticipation; Crack In The Road reviwed a recent gig of theirs: "Brooding, angry guitars over an unrelenting Blood Red Shoes drum base, this a passionate hark back to the late eighties, in the best possible way."
Man Is Slapped is an enigma wrapped inside a conundrum. The solo project of a guy called Richard who loops his voice, keyboards and various effects to produce gyrating pop-punk electronica which is as bizarre as it is captivating.
Burning Fences are paranoid guitar noise freaks!
Twin Pines have escaped from their indie pigeon hole to blast us with huge slabs of rock. Yeah!
